When I was writing my first novel, The Good Mother, a few years ago, after winning a writing competition, I was incredibly overwhelmed. Until then, my experience was short, snappy writing - advertising copy, blogs, and travel articles. For each piece, I wrote several hundred words quickly to meet tight deadlines.
Novel writing was a very different ball-game.
A story of 80,000 words felt so big, with so many characters, plot points, and flashbacks, I couldn’t keep track of it all. I spent most of my writing sessions wondering where to start.
It took a long time and a lot of Google searches but I eventually managed to finish it - but it certainly wasn’t the creative, fun process I’d been expecting and it took many re-writes to get it worthy of publication.
Which is why tomorrow is a big day for me. I’ve been working on a tool that makes starting your novel feel manageable and exciting. Whether you have an idea brewing or just a blank page staring back at you, this resource is here to help you create a solid foundation for your book.
It’s the resource I wish I’d had when writing The Good Mother. It would’ve saved me a lot of time and anxiety trying to piece it all together. Now, three published novels later, it’s a tool I use with every book I write.
It’s not about adding more to your plate but about making your writing journey smoother and more enjoyable. Keep an eye on your inbox—I’ll be sharing all the details tomorrow!
Here’s to starting that novel you’ve been dreaming of.
Warmly,
Karen
